Volunteer Opportunities

“Many hands make light work.” -John Heywood

The Lacrosse Booster Board is counting on many hands to make our team run smoothly. Please volunteer your time to allow these programs to all continue.

Community Project Committee

Work with the coaches to come up with and schedule a project related to assisting the community, contact agency, schedule a day, coordinate event with parents, supervise event with other parent volunteers.

Fundraising Committee

This committee consists of approximately 8-10 people to assist with various fundraising events throughout the year.  People can volunteer as little or as much time as they are able.

Game Day Volunteers

Home Game Announcer

Must have a good voice and knowledge of lacrosse, some experience with a microphone a plus.  Personality and wit also encouraged, but not essential. We would like two people to share this responsibility.

Game Clock Operator

This person gets to sit in the booth (where it's warm) and chat with the announcer. However, they do have to have good hearing (to hear the ref's whistles) and cat-like reflexes (to stop and start the clock accordingly.) This is a very important job. We would like 2 people to share the responsibilities for Varsity and JV games.  JV Operator would be responsible for making sure the bathrooms and announcers booth is unlocked.  Varsity Operator turns on the lights and closes the booth.

Webmaster

One or two individuals to update and maintain the website.

Varsity and JV Photographers

Need 2 parents for each team to take pictures.

JV Video

Need 2 people to share responsibilities of video taping the JV games to create a short video for the year end banquet.

Host a Team Dinner

There are generally 3 team dinners per season per team. The hosting family can choose to serve what they wish and choose a date that is usually 1 day before a game. Some hosts in the past have made home cooked meals, some have catered, etc.... You would need to plan on feeding both the boys and coaches and it generally lasts approximately an hour or so.

Parent Party Committee

Opportunities will include creation of the evite, taking rsvp's, securing silent auction items, working the silent auction at the party, set up and clean up on the day of the party. People can volunteer as little or as much time as they are able.

Picture Day

Need one to two coordinators to set up picture day(s) schedule, pick up brochures, distribute and manage picture day.  Varsity and JV photographed on 2 different days so coordinator needs to be available for both (or one for JV, one for Varsity).  Coordinator picks up finished photos and distributes. The team uses Ralf's Photography in El Segundo.

Player Banquet Committee

This is a fun evening which includes dinner, awards and a highlight video of the season.  The committee should consist of 2-4 people who will be responsible for choosing a location, securing a date, signing contract, picking menu, sending out evite, and making final payment prior to event.  Other duties include calling/emailing to get final head count, decorations, set up/check-in/clean up, senior gifts (photos), awards. You will receive a binder with all previous year's information.

Senior Recognition Committee

Need 3-4 volunteers. This is a ceremony that honors the seniors for their contribution to Mira Costa lacrosse, typically done at the last home game of the season. It involves: gathering information about each senior in terms of their high school lacrosse career, academic honors and their future plans. Setting up a ceremony (can include music) before the game on the field/track where the coach typically reads the script for each player and a "gift" is given to each family and photos are taken by Ralfs.

Sponsorship Committee

This committee would solicit businesses to purchase a banner which will be displayed during the lacrosse season at Waller Stadium.

Uniform Distribution

All vendors and procedures will be provided to you in a binder when you accept this position. In the Fall, based on the inventory of uniforms from the prior year, you are then responsible for ordering any missing uniform pieces.  (there are min. requirements of 12 units each.) All new players receive a person lacrosse team jacket, player helmet and lacrosse gear bag.  You would be responsible for gathering sizes needed and quantities needed, then these orders would be placed. An additional order of practice pinnies or shorts may be necessary depending upon the team's needs. If requested, an order of team gloves or cleats may be necessary. All orders are placed in fall with shipments due in early Jan. Delivery of items to new players and team gear due before photos or team play.

At season end, the uniforms are collected, inventoried, washed and bagged for both teams. You are responsible for obtaining payment from missing uniforms from players.

10th Year Celebration Committee

This season marks the 10th year of Mira Costa Lacrosse.  The committee would decide what is the best way to celebrate our 10th season of lacrosse in conjunction with the annual alumni game.

Apparel

This committee coordinates the selection of apparel and sale of apparel for the Booster Club.
