History

The Mira Costa High School Boys Lacrosse program traces its humble beginnings to 2003. A club team was formed with new coach Dave Vinci, his brother James and an assistant coaching staff made up of local guys that had played Lacrosse in college. This team consisted of high school athletes that played various other sports like hockey, soccer, football and track. Most players did not know how to use a Lacrosse stick or the proper way to put on the pads. For the first 5 years of the program, they had to rely on field space off campus and practiced down the block from Mira Costa at Pennycamp Elementary School.
The MCHS Lacrosse Club team played local schools for the 2003 (2-7), 2004 (5-8) and 2005 (13-4) season slowly getting better each year. At the end of the 2005 season, the coaches, parents and players successfully petitioned the MBUSD Board of Education to make the Lacrosse program a CIF sport.
In the team’s first year of CIF play, they won the Bay League Title, with a 15 and 2 season and competed in the first CIF playoffs for Lacrosse in the LA area. The team won the CIF championship in 2006 and in just 3 short years, the program was on the map!
Since the 2006 season, the boys lacrosse team has consistently won the Bay League title and most recently, in 2010 and 2011, were runners up for the CIF title.
